About GST Signal
A research desk documenting how Indian business registration data is collected, structured and kept current — and where it stops being reliable.
Why this site exists
India has two large public business registers and a large industry built on top of them. Most of what is written about that industry is written to sell a list. The result is a set of claims that repeat everywhere and hold up nowhere: that GST records contain phone numbers, that a registration date proves buying intent, that a database is “100% verified” because it was matched against something.
GST Signal exists to write down the boring, checkable version. What field is in which register. Who publishes it. How often it changes. What a buyer can legitimately conclude from it, and what they cannot.
Who runs it
GST Signal is published by FinScreener Data Solutions, the team behind finscreener.in — a commercial product that sells access to Indian business registration data. We think that is a reason to trust the technical detail and a reason to check the commercial claims, so we disclose it on every article rather than in the footer of a page nobody opens.
Read the full ownership disclosure, including how we handle articles where FinScreener is one of the options being compared.
How articles are researched
Primary sources first: the GST portal, MCA filings, gazette notifications, TRAI regulations and official statistics. Where a claim comes from a vendor, we say which vendor. Where we cannot verify a number, we leave it out rather than round it into a sentence that sounds authoritative.
The full method, including our correction process and how we date-stamp regulatory claims, is on the editorial policy page.
What we do not publish
- Record counts, accuracy percentages or coverage claims we cannot substantiate.
- Statements that any dataset is “government verified” or “government approved” when it is neither.
- Guidance on avoiding DND registries, scraping behind authentication, or any workflow whose purpose is to reach people who have opted out.
- Legal conclusions. We write checklists to take to counsel, not opinions.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, we want to fix it and say that we fixed it. Write to editor@gstsignal.tech or use the contact page. Corrections that change a factual claim get a dated note on the article.
